Monthly Clean -Up: ISWAMA MD, Njoku Urges Imo Residents On Participation

 

..Insists Exercise Has Come To Stay

The newly appointed managing director of Imo State Waste Management Agency (ISWAMA) Mr. Cyril Njoku has stated that the monthly clean up exercise for the entire state at the last Saturday of every month has come to stay in the state.

Fielding questions from newsmen at the end of the last Saturday’s clean up exercise in Owerri, Mr. Njoku appealed to the state residents to support the clean up initiative by keeping their environment clean at all times and by taking part in regular and monthly clean up exercise at the last Saturday of every month. 

Flanked by his director of operations, Hon. Ugochukwu Aghazie, the MD noted that the sanitation exercise will be a continuous exercise as he pointed out that the agency will not wait until it is month end before engaging in clean up activities as he noted that at Douglas road when the situation called for it, the road was closed down to be sanitized as they did not wait till the last Saturday of the month before doing so.

"As long as I will last in Imo (as the MD of ISWAMA), clean up exercise has come to stay. It will be at every last Saturday of the month. And then we can also have mini clean up exercises depending on where we find not too good for us. For example last time we did it at Douglas, we shut the whole of Douglas down and then we cleaned it up and Douglas is now clean. And also we want to replicate that in some other streets but depending on where we find dirts we will also do the same but for the general clean up, very soon we are going to bring up every body in and for every city in the state not just in Owerri Municipal but for now we are test running with Owerri Municipal and it will spread to other cities. The monthly clean up has come to stay and it will be at the last Saturday of every month" the MD remarked.

Also partaking in the exercise was Hon. Chisom Ojukwu, the member representing Nkwerre state Constituency who told pressmen that he and fellow honorable members of the house support the initiatives as they are out to lead by example by partaking in the monthly clean up exercise.

The residents were urged to regularly keep their environment clean and also take part in the monthly sanitation exercise at the last Saturday of every month as a way of defending themselves against diseases which promotes healthy living.
