It was indeed a black Friday as not less than five persons were reported dead owing to a fatal accident involving a Lords Chosen Luxurious bus and a Tipper bus along Onitsha - Owerri express road in Orogwe, Owerri -West LGA.

The victims of the accident Infonew.com.ng learnt were travelling to their Church programme in Owerri before they met their Waterloo.

"Following a distress call received from a concerned citizen on 19/04/2024 at about 0820hrs that a fatal motor accident occurred between a lorry and the Lord’s Chosen luxurious bus at Orogwe along Onitsha express road,  operatives of Ogbakwu Divisional Headquarters and the State Traffic Department swiftly dispatched to the scene and assisted in evacuating the victims to Uchenna Hospital Irete for treatment, where the medical doctor on duty confirmed four (4) dead, while the remaining victims are responding to treatment.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the lorry with registration number ABU 157 YX, with the driver currently at large, came out from  Orogwe Market Road and joined Owerri-Onitsha Express Road without proper observation. Meanwhile, photographs and sketches of the accident scene have been taken while the bodies of the victims have been deposited at the Ossy mortuary for preservation and the accidental vehicles cleared off the road for free flow of traffic. Effort is intensified to contact the families of the victims and apprehend the driver of the Truck at large.

The Commissioner of Police, Imo State Command, CP Aboki Danjuma while expressing concern over the avoidable tragic incident, has tasked the State Traffic Officers to carry out a thorough investigation of the accident and urged road users in the State to always exercise caution when plying the highway. He advised them to observe the speed limit, avoid overloading and recklessness which are the major causes of most motor accidents.
