NWFL Super Six: Heartland Queens Seek Positive Result Against Edo Queens Today

After a disappointing result against Confluence Queens during match day 2 encounters, Heartland Queens will square up against against Edo Queens today, Wednesday for three points as they seek to remain in contention for the ongoing NWFL Super Six playoff in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state.

The two top flight sides are known foes and rivals having met each other in the league previously as well as the annual preseason football showpiece, Betsy Obaseki Women Football Tournament (BOWFT) with the Benin City side enjoying some heights of superiority.

However, it will be the first time the premier leaguers will meet themselves in the elite football playoffs, Super Six and that is surely going to colour the forms the encounter will take come on Wednesday more so as the clash has already been tagged as a-must-win for the sides by bookmakers if they still have dreams of making it to the podium at the end of the day.

Heading into Wednesday's matchup, the Owerri side were rudely beaten 0-2 by Confluence Queens while the ancient city side fell 1-2 to multiple champions and the most decorated side, Rivers Angels so saying that the game will be fierce and explosive looks more or less an understatement.

The Owerri side are determined to play themselves back into strong reckoning after the shocking loss to the Confluence City side and have used the whole day idle time to reappraise and reassess the entire work tools aimed at getting it perfectly right on matchday.

Although the manager of the Owerri side, Obi Ogbala has mooted the idea to rejig the setup with the whole intention of introducing new egs but the envisaged change in the immediate past squad may not be massive as majority of the mainstays of the team will still get the nods to keep their shirts.

Of course, the side's talisman, Mary Lucky will be entrusted once again with the baton to lead the attack and in the likely absence of the bullish attacker and top scorer, Chinedu Chinaka due to some hard knocks she picked in the last game, the likes of on-the-field captain, Chimebere Opara, Nigeria's cadet star Yetunde Anyantosho, Emmanuella James and crafty and nimble-footed winger, Onyinyechi Kalu are sure to be called upon to assist in the chase for goal. The rearguards will see hard-as-nails defenders, Onyedikachi Ekezie, Chinyere Iheoma, Kelechi Orgii, and Nnenna Williams providing the necessary watertight covers for the ever effective netminder Uchenna Chukwu while the options in the middle will include the quartet, Oluchi Okwara, Samson Faith, Oluchi Ofoegbu and Mary Okorie.

Victory in the game against Edo Queens will greatly lift the Owerri mainstreams from the present bottom spot of the six-team table and push her up into renewed contention once again.
