Imo SWAN Lauds Conduct of George Aluo Led NNL Super 8 Playoff


..Commends Imo Born Players over Flamingos World Cup ticket







The Sports Writers Association of Nigeria, Imo state chapter has thumbed up the superb organisation of the just concluded Nigeria National League Super 8 held in Enugu under the leadership of the state born, George Aluo.


The NNL Super 8 ended on Thursday at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Stadium, Enugu with Beyond Limits of Ogun State as champions after a 4-3 win on penalties over Nasarawa United in the final following a 2-2 draw at the end of the regulation time. 


SWAN, Imo Chairman, Cosmos Chukwuemeka who responded through the scribe of the Association, Tunde Liadi said the Ngor Okpala Local Government Area of Imo State born administrator's Midas touch was evident throughout the tournament which produced the champions of the NNL for 2023-24 season.


While appreciating the NNL for a broad based tournament in Enugu, Imo SWAN Chairman hailed the NNL Board for the engagement of Imo SWAN Secretary, Tunde Liadi as one of the six Match Commissioners while Oscar Iwuamadi who served as the head of the active referees was also named as the Best Referee of the playoff and Henry Eke another referee used were the officials from Imo state that graced the playoff.


Chukwuemeka nonetheless urged the NNL to look at areas they need to improve on ahead of future playoff for the second tier league to become truly the most important league in Nigeria.


In a related, SWAN, Imo has hailed the qualification of the Flamingos, the Nigeria's Under 17 Women's team for the FIFA U-17 Women's World Cup slated for Dominican Republic.


Flamingos beat Liberia's cadet side 2-0 at the MKO Abiola National Stadium, Abuja on Friday with Imo born Harmony Chidi scoring both goals for a 6-1 aggregate over the West African side.


Chukwuemeka praised the performance of the imperious Flamingos who were powered throughout the qualifiers by Harmony who bagged 13 goals from just six games to stay atop the highest scorers chart in the African Qualifiers ahead of the remaining two qualifiers in Nairobi between Kenya and Burundi and in Berkane between Morocco and Zambia.


SWAN, Imo thumbed up the Mbaitoli LGA born Harmony for her irrepressible form in the qualifiers but warned her to sustain the momentum and not allow anything to distract her so that she will still stay in-form till the FIFA Under 17 Women's World Cup and even beyond.
