Gunmen Reck Havoc Again Imo, Kill PG In Onuimo Community, Six Village Heads

  

Even as Imo like other South East States has refused to join the ongoing nationwide strike against hardship and bad governance, the Eastern Heartland state has recently been ravaged with killings by unknown Gunmen.

The disturbing incidents has seen over 15 persons killed in less than one week following a recent massacre of about seven persons including the President General PG, of Umucheke Okwe Autonomous Community in Onuimo LGA of Imo state.

According to reports gathered by infonews.com.ng, this unholy act occured on Saturday evening when armed assailants killed, Mr Hyginus Ohazuruike, the President General of Umucheke Okwe Autonomous Community as the attack also claimed the lives of Six Village heads from the same Community.

An anonymous local resident reported that the gunmen, who arrived in a vehicle, struck while the victims were holding a meeting at the President General's shop in the community market.

The source recounted, "The gunmen arrived and opened fire, killing the President General and six village heads. They then set the location ablaze. All the community leaders present were killed in the attack."

The motive behind the attack remains unclear. The source added, "No one knew the agenda of the meeting. The gunmen arrived, opened fire, killed the village chiefs, and set the place on fire before fleeing."

Following the attack, the village has been deserted as residents fled their homes in fear.

Hon Emeka Obi, the Sole Administrator of the LGA, we learnt confirmed the killings and urged residents to remain calm while condemning the violence.

The Imo State Police spokesperson, Henry Okoye while reacting to horror act when contacted said investigations are already ongoing to unravel those behind the gruesome act with view of bring them to book.
