2024NYG: Imo Contingent Stranded Over Non Approval of Funds

All is seemingly not well with the Imo State contingent to the National Youth Games, "Asaba 2024" as reports reaching infonews.com.ng suggest that they are stranded at the Dan Anyiam Stadium due to paucity of funds.

Infonews.com.ng gathered that the proposal sent to the number one citizen of the state, Sen Hope Uzodimma months ago is yet be to approved and released which the athletes and their officials fear might jeopardize Team Imo's participation in the competition.

As at the time of filing this report, the team who were billed to leave for Asaba on Tuesday were still seen loitering at the Dan Anyiam stadium will little or no hope of their departure up untill 6pm.

The 6th edition of the National Youth Games which is being hosted by Delta State is billed to commence on Wednesday with an opening Ceremony as they state contingents are expected to report to camp and for accreditation on Tuesday.

Notable states such Rivers, Bayelsa, Akwa Ibom, Edo, Lagos, Niger, Nasarawa, Enugu, Ebonyi, Abia, Anambra, Kwara, Oyo, Ogun, Ondo, Kaduna, Bauchi, Kogi among others have reportedly arrived Asaba and settled down for biennual sports fiesta for Nigerian Youths.

Some of the young and very enthusiastic athletes who spoke to infonews.com.ng on anonymity pleaded with His Excellency, the Executive Governor of Imo State, Sen Hope Uzodimma to please approve funds for them so they can hopefully join their pears in taking part in this year's NYG which in the recent past has moulded future of our youths and helped in a great deal to promote nation building and unity of purpose.
