Fresh Tragedy In Imo As Gunmen Attack Isiala Mbano Council H/Qtrs, Raze Obowo Police Station, Injure One

 

In a fresh turn of tragedy, two Imo Council Areas witnessed a new attack on Tuesday night, as unknown gunmen launched a brutal attack on the Obowo and Isiala Mbano Local Government Areas  of Imo State, leaving indegens and residents of the affected communities reeling from the violence. 

According to a Facebook report by Prince Uwalaka, the assault, which was marked by intense gunfire lasting approximately 30 minutes, occurred simultaneously with another attack in Isiala Mbano, further escalating tensions in the region.

The assailants first struck at the NEPA Junction area of Umuadara, Umulogho Obowo, where they forcibly dragged a police operative out of his home, along with his belongings, and executed him in cold blood. The violence did not stop there; a male student from the College of Nursing Sciences, Umulogho, became a tragic casualty, suffering a severe gunshot wound to his chest from a stray bullet. The identities of other potential victims are yet to be confirmed, as the community remains on edge.

The following morning, the sound of explosives and gunfire once again shattered the silence, this time in the Otoko area. The gunmen, undeterred by their earlier assault, returned and set ablaze the Otoko Police Station, the headquarters of the Obowo Divisional Police. The station, which stood as a symbol of law enforcement in the community, was reduced to ruins in a matter of moments.

Eyewitnesses recounted the terrifying ordeal, describing how the community woke up to the echoes of destruction, unsure of what horrors the daylight would reveal. 

As investigations into the incident continue, the local authorities and residents alike are left grappling with the aftermath of this senseless violence, hoping for justice and a return to peace in their once-tranquil community. 

In a shocking turn of events, the Isiala Mbano Local Government Area headquarters fell victim to a brutal assault on Tuesday night. The attack, carried out by unidentified gunmen, resulted in the complete destruction of the facility and an unconfirmed number of fatalities.

The incident coincided with the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary elections for Local Government Area chairmanship positions across the state. While the exact number of casualties remains uncertain, social media platforms have been flooded with disturbing images and video footage depicting the aftermath of the attack.

Sources revealed that the assailants struck after party members had departed following the conclusion of the primary election in the area. The source alleges that the victims were primarily Ebubeagu security operatives tasked with guarding the council headquarters.

The motive behind this heinous act remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility for the attack. The local community is now gripped by fear and uncertainty as authorities struggle to piece together the events that unfolded.

As of the time of this report, the state police spokesperson, Henry Okoye, has yet to respond to inquiries regarding the incident. The attack raises serious concerns about the security situation in Imo State and the safety of government installations.
