Amb Ogbonna Hails Imo's Own Chiamaka Nnadozie on Back-to-Back CAF Best African Goalkeeper Triumph
In a moment of glowing pride for Imo State and Nigeria at large, Hon. Prince Sir Eleazar Onyewuchi Ogbonna "Ambassador," Chairman of the Imo State Sports Commission, has congratulated Super Falcons and Paris FC goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie for clinching the CAF Best African Goalkeeper of the Year award for the second consecutive year.
The prestigious award was bestowed upon Nnadozie on Monday night during the 2024 CAF Awards ceremony in Morocco, marking a landmark achievement for the League 1 Féminine star who continues to shine on the global stage.
Hon. Ogbonna, on behalf of His Excellency, Governor Hope Uzodimma and the entire people of Imo State, hailed Nnadozie as a "beacon of excellence," describing her as a trailblazer who has consistently brought glory to Imo State and Nigeria. From her days as a student at Akwakuma Girls Secondary School to her formative years with clubs like Iwu FC, Heartland Queens, Rivers Angels, and Nigeria’s U-17 and U-20 teams, Nnadozie’s journey has been a masterclass in resilience, hard work, and determination.
"Chiamaka has proven time and again that with discipline and commitment, one can rise to global prominence. She has made Imo State proud and continues to inspire millions of aspiring athletes across Nigeria," Ogbonna stated.
The Sports Commission Chairman reiterated the Imo State Government’s unwavering commitment to grassroots sports development under the Shared Prosperity/3R administration. "We are determined to discover and nurture more talents like Chiamaka—not just in football, but in all sports where our state holds a comparative advantage. Her achievement is a reminder that Imo youths possess limitless potential," Ogbonna affirmed.
In the same vein, Hon. Ogbonna extended heartfelt congratulations to another Nigerian star, Ademola Lukeman, who was crowned CAF African Footballer of the Year, following closely in the footsteps of last year’s winner, Victor Osimhen.
A former Serie A player, international businessman, and philanthropist, Ogbonna urged Imo youths to emulate the virtues of hard work, dedication, and perseverance embodied by Nnadozie and Lukeman. "Their success stories are proof that talent, when combined with focus and discipline, can open doors to greatness. Let the achievements of these champions inspire you to harness your God-given potential," he added.
As the world celebrates Nnadozie’s heroics, her back-to-back CAF triumph underscores her status as one of the finest goalkeepers on the African continent—a true icon for the present and future generation of athletes.
Imo State stands tall, and Nigeria rejoices as Chiamaka Nnadozie continues to script history, one save at a time.
