The school boy in hospital when he was visited by SEMB Executive Secretary
A student of Urban Development Secondary school World Bank Housing Estate, who was shot by a landlord in New Owerri has been confirmed dead.
According to sources, an Owerri based American trained lawyer, Barrister Mbama shot a 16 years old student of Urban Development Secondary School New Owerri.
Infonews gathered that the students were playing football in preparation of their forthcoming Inter-House sports, mistakenly their football as a result of shot played by one of them,fell into the compound of the said lawyer. According to some of the students interviewed by our reporter,the students went to the man's house and were knocking and begging him to release the ball for them and he was shouting at them and threatened thunder and Brimstone if he should meet them there.
The students eager to continue with their training left the house after the man threatened them.
The source told newsmen that the victim, Paul Victor climbed the fence which the school shares with the alleged trigger happy lawyer and continued to beg him to throw the ball for him, according to the source, the man told him to wait that he is coming, only for him to return with a gun, on sighting the gun, the victim tried to jump down for his safety but was allegedly shot on the buttocks by the lawyer-house owner.
Upon seeing the blood gushing out, they students carried the victim to the principal's office, who rushed the boy to Imo Specialist Hospital Umuguma, while the teachers alerted the New Owerri Police station, who intervened and got the man arrested.
When Infonews visited Imo Specialist Hospital for a first hand information from the victim on Wednesday at the male ward, but he only managed to say his name, as he was in severe pains.
Our reporter who visited the hospital however met the Executive Secretary, Secondary Education Management Board, Dame Augustina Azubuike in company of other Directors from SEMB praying for the quick recovery of the student. The principals of the school and the parents of the boy were sighted at the hospital when our reporter visited there.
Our investigative journalist on Thursday 20th March about 11am made a repeat visit to the hospital and saw the parents of the boy,Mr Odikanwa Jonathan who told him that the victim underwent major surgery and has been transferred to the intensive care unit.
However this newspaper got information that the 16 years old student passed away about 1:38pm and rushed to the hospital for confirmation and saw the late student covered with bedsheet beside the entrance of the ICU.
Residents of Area N World Bank Neighbourhood are calling for proper investigation and justice
As at press time, available information to Infonews reveals that the matter has been transfered to the Criminal investigation department of the Imo Police Force headquarters for further investigation.
